Representatives from the Los Angeles ARTCC and the Oakland ARTCC today announced plans for their...

Sunday, August 22, 2010 from 1700z (1000PST) to 2200z.

This, the thirteenth in a long and successful series of large scale events is the product of support from not only the staffs of ZLA and ZOA, but also the members of supporting ARTCC's bordering the two west coast centers, including Seattle, Salt Lake City, Denver and Albequerque ARTCC's.

Airports serviced in the participating regions include some of the largest in the nation. "We're excited to feature the most realistic air traffic management offered online by linking airports such as Los Angeles International, Las Vegas McCarren International, San Francisco International and Oakland International," said ZLA ARTCC ATM Ian Elchitz. "This event benefits both the participating pilots and controllers in that it provides real-time traffic simulation as if it were the real thing."

Pilots are encouraged to reserve times slots from the CalScream.com website made available by 11th Street Technologies. "We've put together a database of over 800 flights available within the sectors covered by the event," said newly appointed Oakland Chief, Michael Mund-Hoym. "This isn't just a 'big airport' flyin. We also like to highlight the smaller fields that don't normally receive traffic on a regular basis - and that's what makes this event so special."

Unlike most other flyins, California Screamin' isn't a 'follow-the-leader' type of event. It is commonplace for pilots to see other traffic going many different directions all in some of the most complex airspace in the nation. Traffic advisories, altitude restrictions and other commonly unused online air traffic management techniques are called into play for CalScream.

"We just like to make sure everyone has a chance to experience the real-life situations professional controllers and pilots deal with day in and day out," Elchitz said. "The flightboard enables pilots to be pushing back from their gates approximately at the same time the real flights are starting up their engines."

For more information about the California Screamin' event, please visit the OFFICIAL PAGE at

World VATSIM Day

For the past three years I have been promoting World VATSIM Day, basically the easiest event on...

How does it work then?

Simple, World VATSIM day is the day that VATSIM came into fruition, the day it all started. It is the day we celebrate for ourselves the uniqueness of VATSIM, all geo-political barriers are broken on VATSIM we are a world wide community who share one thing the love of aviation and flight simming. So lets celebrate that fact on World VATSIM Day Aug 8th 2010.

All you have to do is fly and or control or both. The aim of World VATSIM day is to celebrate our network, (well the network the founders own) by trying to get as many of us, the community online. As I say there is no planning there is no advertising banner (although we might have one this year), you just get online.

If some of you want to fly together or fly to a different country then do so. If someone wants to get in touch with their local media outlet to get some media time then do so. This is the most open ended and looseley planned event in the whole VATSIM Calendar.

"Very good....very realistic. Great experience as a pilot. Thanks"
"The Denver Live Event was great! You guys did a great job. Again thanks for the great ATC."
"Denver live was very well ran and a pleasure to fly in. Please thankall your people for the great time"
"1st time flying to Denver. Downloaded scenery, charts and spent half
an hour planning the flight. Great ATCs made all that worth.
Will be back for future flights."
"First, I want to thank all the ZDV controllers for this great event! like last year was a wonderful evening, a pleasure to fly in and out of Denver!! thanks"
"Kudos Denver!!
Splendid event! ATC I had contact with were great KASE-KCOS. After blowing my approach, missed turn to PYNON, on the DBERY1 arrival, I was fully expecting Approach to jump all over me. Not the case...not sure who it was, but thanks for taking it in full stride. Learned a lesson...don\'t hand fly a STAR with an eight month old in your lap! I was determined to fly in the event, with or without baby duty!"
Its time for the 4th annual Denver Live 2010. <link http://www.denartcc.org/ - external-link-new-window>Check Denver Artcc Website for details
.

Fly UK Virtual Airways is proud to present our newest events tour - Northern Skies.

This tour will encompass most of Northern Europe, visiting thirteen airports in eight different countries over the course of five months. With the schedule offering up to three events per month, the aim of this tour is to strengthen our rapidly growing VATSIM community and build new friendships with new pilots.

Those who remember back to past years will recall how we only had one event per month, attended usually by one pilot, who was usually a member of staff. Then came Europa, our first VATSIM tour which did wonders, transforming our programme into a busy three per month, currently having an average attendance rate of 3.5 pilots. We aim to push that average up just a little higher with this tour, setting new records, making new friends, sharing our love of flying with everyone in our 200-strong pilot community.

So on to the tour details. The official version of the tour as of current is published below:

_________________________________________________

Scheduling and Flight Details
(M) >> Morning Flight | (E) >> Evening Flight

Morning Flights will depart at 09:30z
Evening Flights will depart at 17:00z

August
Sun 1st Aug (M) - Manchester (EGCC) to Edinburgh (EGPH)
Fri 13th Aug (E) - Edinburgh (EGPH) to East Midlands (EGNX)
Fri 27th Aug (E) - East Midlands (EGNX) to Dublin (EIDW)

September
Fri 4th Sep (E) - Dublin (EIDW) to Belfast (EGAA)
Sun 20th Sep (M) - Belfast (EGAA) to Reykjavik (BIRK)
Sun 27th Sep (E) - Reykjavik (BIRK) to Oslo (ENGM)

October
Fri 1st Oct (E) - Oslo (ENGM) to Stockholm (ESSA)
Sun 17th Oct (M) - Stockholm (ESSA) to Helsinki (EFHK)
Fri 29th Oct (E) - Helsinki (EFHK) to Copenhagen (EKCH)

November
Fri 12th Nov (E) - Copenhagen (EKCH) to Amsterdam (EHAM)
Sun 28th Nov (M) - Amsterdam (EHAM) to Birmingham (EGBB)

December
Sun 26th Dec (M + E) - Birmingham (EGBB) to London Heathrow (EGLL)
_________________________________________________________

As you can see, we have 12 flights scheduled on Sundays and Fridays, and varying from mornings to evenings. This is to allow as many people to participate as possible, whether you're free on weekends or not, or whether you live in Australia, England, America or any other part of the world - we want to cater for all. Everyone has a chance of getting at least one award. And these awards are as follows:

For the past ten years, Virtual Boston ARTCC controllers from around the world have flocked to the Boston area to control this traditional event from one room. Demonstrating their fine skills and technique to provide top notch ATC service to VATSIM pilots, our controllers have a great time serving our loyal pilots and also take advantage of a unique opportunity to get to know their online colleagues better.
This year is no different -- over 15 controllers will be getting together in person on the Daniel Webster College campus in Nashua, NH (near the actual location of the real ZBW facility) to staff the ARTCC on Saturday, July 10th from 12:00 PM EDT (1600z) to 7:00 PM EDT (2300z).
